What STAR is all about
The Spirit of Tolerance & Art in the Region. That’s what we’re about, in a nutshell. But STAR is also movement towards inclusion. Our goal is to build upon existing events and organizations like Juneteenth, Pride Parade, Local Colors, Interfaith Hospitality Network, Henry Street Festival, to name just a few, and create new initiatives such as:
BRIDGEWALK – Because Sunday mornings are the place/time when we are most segregated, we will invite congregations to gather at and on the bridges that connect the separate areas of our region and use them as symbols of how we can come together through music to learn from each other.
OPEN DOORS series -Imagine a block party that promotes tolerance. Businesses open their doors, quite literally, and musicians and artists perform in the common areas with the theme of different communities all coming together. This could include readings and discussions on challenging topics.
STAR event: Down by Downtown – Our goal is to have a musical event in the Downtown area where diverse musicians from all over the world come to play TOGETHER and, through music, give the example of what true unity looks (and sounds) like when we promote tolerance and understanding.
Our aim is to have at least one event per month, ongoing. Please check back often for updates on more STAR initiatives.
